Mid-West Model 220 Piston Type Flame Proof Differential Pressure Gauge, 5 – 100 PSID
ABLE Instruments are Mid-West Instrument’s Official Representative for Sales and Service in the UK and Ireland, including the Model 220 Piston Type Flame Proof Differential Pressure Gauge (0-5 to 0-100 PSID or equivalent). The Model 220 is a robust, compact differential pressure gauge designed to meet stringent requirements for hazardous locations. It is certified for use in Class I, Division 1, Groups B, C, & D, Class II, Division 1 Groups E, F & G, as well as Class I Division 2, Groups E, F, & G; and Class II Division 2 Groups F & G environments. The device also complies with Ex d IIB + H2 and Ex tb IIIC IP6X standards, making it suitable for both dust and gas hazardous areas. This gauge boasts a range of third-party certifications, including CSA, UL, ATEX, IEC Ex, and KOSHA Ex IIB + H2, ensuring compliance with international safety standards. Additionally, it is EU RoHS2 compliant, highlighting its environmental safety credentials.
The Model 220 features a rugged piston-type design with a glass-reinforced thermoplastic dial case, although an anodized aluminium dial case is available as an option. It is weather and corrosion-resistant, with a shatter-resistant lens for enhanced durability. The gauge includes over-range protection for both high over low and low over high pressure scenarios. The device is available with various output options, including a field-accessible terminal strip, 4-20 mA transmitter, switch, and relay outputs, with switch outputs that require no power to operate.
With a 4-1/2” dial size and a differential full-scale ascending accuracy of ±3/2/3% (ASME B40.1 Grade B), the Model 220 supports dial scale ranges from 0-5 PSID to 0-100 PSID. The gauge can operate at pressures up to 4000 PSI (275 Bar), with ATEX/IECEx certifications allowing for pressures up to 3000 PSI (205 Bar). The operating temperature ranges vary depending on the output option, with the standard range being -40°F (-40°C) to +185°F (+85°C).
Features:
- ATEX approved – Ex d IIB + H2; Ex tb IIIC IP6X
- Simple, rugged, and compact piston-type design for the sensing element
- Glass-reinforced thermoplastic dial case (Optional anodised aluminium dial case available; contact ABLE for details)
- Weather-resistant and corrosion-resistant construction
- Shatter-resistant lens
- Over-range protection for both high-over-low and low-over-high conditions
- Options available for terminal strip switch and transmitter

Constructed with 316 stainless steel for the wetted pressure-containing body assembly and internal parts, including a ceramic magnet, the Model 220 ensures long-lasting performance in demanding environments. The device is compatible with a variety of elastomers, including Buna-N, Viton, Neoprene, and Ethylene Propylene, with optional perfluoro elastomer available.
Common applications for the Model 220 include monitoring differential pressure across filters, strainers, separators, valves, and pumps. This versatile gauge offers reliability and precision in challenging conditions, making it an ideal choice for critical industrial processes.
What are the electrical switch specifications?
Mid-West Instrument Hazardous Location switches come equipped with a field-wireable terminal strip, eliminating the need for a costly explosion-proof junction box near the switch. These switches are easily adjustable, allowing customers to set them within a specified adjustment range of the instrument. All configurations feature a ½” FNPT conduit interface. Mid-West can also pre-set switch set points upon customer request. For ATEX options, switches are CE marked in accordance with the EU ATEX and RoHS Directives.
The Mid-West Instrument 220 differential pressure transmitter, available in both indicating and non-indicating versions, is a two-wire, loop-powered, microprocessor-based 4-20 mA transmitter. It utilises a magnetic angle sensor and electronics to detect the angle (relative to the transmitter sensor) of a magnet that moves linearly in the bore. Each transmitter undergoes individual calibration to the gauge using an 11-point calibration linearisation method.
