Temperature Transmitters

A temperature transmitter is a device that converts a temperature sensor’s electrical signal into a standardised output signal for monitoring and controlling temperatures in industrial processes. The output signal is usually a 4-20 mA or 0-10 V signal. To ensure accuracy a temperature transmitter is capable of isolating, amplifying, linearizing and filtering noise from the temperature sensor signal.

When choosing a temperature transmitter, it is important to consider things like:

  • Mounting location: Whether it will be head-mounted, outdoors, or in a hazardous location
  • Signal integrity: Whether a measurement error could be costly
  • Programmability: Whether set-points and scaling are considerations
  • Smart capabilities: Whether the transmitter can send alerts or provide diagnostic information

Temperature transmitters play a crucial role across various industries by monitoring and controlling temperatures to ensure optimal performance and safety. In manufacturing and sectors like chemical, petrochemical, and pharmaceuticals, they help maintain product quality by keeping temperatures within precise ranges. In power generation, temperature transmitters contribute to energy efficiency, ensuring that plants operate at their most efficient levels. The oil and gas industry relies on them to monitor temperatures in refineries and during production processes, enhancing safety and operational control. In HVAC systems, they regulate heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, ensuring comfortable and efficient environments. Temperature transmitters are also vital in scientific research, where they provide accurate readings for experiments, and in environmental monitoring, they help maintain temperatures within safe and efficient ranges for various applications.

The United Electric ONE Series is a versatile, multifunctional device that combines a switch, gauge, and transmitter into a single unit, offering significant cost savings through its streamlined installation via a single process connection and the use of existing wiring. Its patented IAW® (I Am Working) self-diagnostics feature continuously monitors the device’s health, enhancing operational reliability and maintenance efficiency. With fully adjustable set points and deadband, the device can be easily programmed using the display keypad or through a HART connection. It is certified for hazardous locations, including intrinsically safe and non-incendive area classifications, making it ideal for challenging industrial environments.
