Micronics

ABLE Instruments are Micronics’ Exclusive Representative for Sales and Service in the UK and Ireland for the UX5000 Fixed ATEX Approved, Zone 1 Ultrasonic Clamp-On Flow Meter.

ABLE are a leading UK distributor, stockist and service provider of Micronics clamp on ultrasonic flow meters, designed for industry and commerce, including an exclusive arrangement for the UX5000. The UX5000 is specifically designed for use in hazardous environments, with ATEX Zone 1 approval, enabling safe and reliable non-invasive flow measurement of liquids in explosive atmospheres such as those found in petrochemical plants, refineries, and process industries. It offers permanent, fixed installation with advanced signal processing for high-accuracy measurement and long-term operational stability.

Micronics offer a comprehensive selection of flow measurement solutions, including portable ‘Time of Flight’ clamp-on flow meters such as the Portaflow range, whilst also offering ‘Doppler’ technology if required. Micronics’ full list of instruments includes portable and fixed meters based on the use of non-invasive ultrasonic sound transmission. This detects liquid flow velocity within closed pipes or open channels.

The UX5000 utilises advanced transit time technology, with a built-in data logger, multiple input/output options including Modbus and 4-20mA, and the ability to handle various pipe materials and sizes without cutting into the pipe. Its rugged design and IP66-rated enclosure ensure durability even in harsh industrial environments.

ABLE have been at the forefront of Clamp-On Technology for over 30 years. Learn more.

Types of Flow Meter
The two types of Flow Meter available are Transit Time (Time of Flight) and Doppler. Both are available in a clamp-on meter style with transducers. These are used to detect and then measure flow rates from the outside of the pipework, without any interruption to flow or process. Ultrasonic clamp-on flow meter readings are altered by acoustic properties of fluids and impacted by density, viscosity, temperature and suspended particulates. These are all dependent on the type of flow meter.

The UX5000 is a transit time flow meter and offers high accuracy in clean liquid applications, ideal for long-term monitoring, energy management, and leak detection. It supports bi-directional flow measurement and can store data locally or transmit it via external systems.

You will find the full range of Micronics Clamp-On Flow and Heat Meters available on our website, including PortaFlow 222, Portaflow 333, U1000MKII, UF3300, and the fixed, ATEX Zone 1 approved UX5000.

Measurement Principle:
Micronics meters use a cross-correlation transit time algorithm to provide accurate flow measurements. An ultrasonic beam of a given frequency is generated and applied to the transducer crystals. This transmission goes first from the downstream transducer to the upstream transducer as shown in the upper half of Figure 1 (below). The transmission is then made in the reverse direction, being sent from the upstream transducer to the downstream transducer as shown in the lower half of Figure 1. The speed at which the ultrasound is transmitted through the liquid is increased slightly by the velocity of the liquid through the pipe. The subsequent time difference T1-T2 is directly proportional to the liquid flow velocity.
